HONORARY DEGREES

Description: Honorary/non-professional degrees differ from academic degrees in which the latter require students to pursue and complete a certain academic curriculum. Academic qualifications should usually be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Considering that the honorary titles are distinctions or recognitions not based on studies, but in exceptional contributions to the general welfare of the society. Most honorary titles are granted by academic institutions, but by virtue of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, duly established ecclesiastical bodies may also grant honorary qualifications to persons Qualified. It is important, however, that anyone who has received an honorary title honors it as such, particularly with employers, that they should not perceive it as an academic title for purposes of employment, promotions or financial benefits in any other way. Therefore, the honorary degrees will be followed by the letters in parentheses (Hon) as long as they are used in relation to the name of the recipient. This measure does not apply to the Doctor of Divinity, because the ecclesiastical community already consider it honorary.
